Under the small-scale market infrastructure development and management sub-component, the Agricultural Growth Program (AGP) is financing feeder road development within the selected woredas. The AGP will support construction and/or rehabilitation of about 800 kilometers of critically important, small-scale feeder roads needed to fulfill the programmatic objectives.
Therefore, this activity comprises:
- Construction/rehabilitation of kebele to woreda center roads, kebele to kebele roads, village to kebele center roads, footbridges, and road side drainage.
- Establishing and training of road maintenance groups of the local people for the repair and maintenance of community-owned transport infrastructure;
- Provision of critical startup tools to the community for use under O&M; and
- Linking interested individuals and groups who are willing to own/rent intermediate transport methods (ITM) with micro-finance institutions.
So far construction and rehabilitation of more than 303km of feeder roads is under way and 10 footbridges have been completed in order to improve access to markets.
