Business Enabling Environment Assessment

This business enabling environment assessment analyzes the rules, polices, practices and social dynamics leading to opportunities and constraints for the coffee, sesame, wheat, chickpeas, maize and honey value chains in the Ethiopian agricultural sector. The report investigates three critical areas for agricultural businesses in Ethiopia:

• access to credit
• dealing with licenses
• trading across borders

Increased support and investment in the agricultural and agri-industry sector constitute a corner stone in the government’s strategy to maintain a high growth rate, but this assessment found that there are multiple regulatory and institutional obstacles for the sector to reach its full potential.
