Abergelle International Livestock Development PLC

Abergelle export abattoir is established in 2010, in Tigray. It has daily slaughtering capacity of 250 cattle 2500 sheep and goats. Currently the abattoir is giving slaughter service to local consumers and exporting beef and mutton to some Middle East countries. Previously due to many reasons, as intended this abattoir could not be functional.

Grant support

Abergelle is one the largest beneficiaries of USAID’s AGP-LMD grant program. USAID AGP-LMD awarded a grant with significant amount of money to Abergelle. The purpose of the grant is to improve Abergelle‘s quality assurance procedures and to obtain HAACP certification so that it can produce products that meet the quality standards required by international buyers. Consultant for HACCP certification has been selected and on the processes of contract agreement and they are expected to start certification activities very soon. It is hoped that this will dramatically improve performance of the meat export and will increase the number of destination markets.
